Community building in biotech venture
If innovation is the end product, people are the raw materials
Highlights and takeaways
Effective networking works best at informal gatherings of nice people! We have been successful at organizing small meetups for biotech venture enthusiasts. These meetups are often sponsored by incredible venture firms and startups. We would love to see you there!
We are forming an investment syndicate to support brilliant and kind founders from our community. We are focused on early-stage biotech startups with innovative platform technologies or infrastructure solutions. In the future, we will form a dedicated venture fund.
Biotech venture meetups
Ideation and innovation don’t occur in a vacuum. This is self-evident. Yet, what’s sorely lacking in the biotech venture ecosystem is community building. There are ample discussions on strategies for capital raises and intellectual property, but not as much on forming authentic relationships among stakeholders. Genuine and durable relationships lead to conversations, collaborations, and ultimately outcomes that broadly benefit society. Moreover, it is only through the kindness of friends, acquaintances, and strangers that we are able to achieve anything of note. This is an irreducible truth whether it is known or not to ourselves. Ideation and innovation are made possible only through the relationships we form and maintain.
We have been successful at organizing informal meetups in the biotech venture community; if you are interested, please register for future meetups here. These events are simply pulling together kind people, who then invite their friends and colleagues. We focus heavily on grassroots, word-of-mouth marketing. Goodwill and kind words proliferate through the community, which attracts more kind people to these events. This feedback loop has generated stronger interest over a short period of time. We recently began to engage with corporate sponsors. Thank you to Mission Bay Capital, 8VC, Civilization Ventures, Foresite Capital, Foresite Labs, and Benchling for being our early supporters! We welcome any inbound interest for future sponsorships.
Community investments
We are also supporting founders in our community. Our criteria is simple - our founders are brilliant and kind people building something impactful and innovative. We particularly like startups focused on platform technologies or infrastructure solutions. If you are interested in participating in any investment syndicates of early-stage biotech startups, please apply here or reach out to discuss! We will be raising a series of SPVs to support these founders and their startups at the earliest stages. In the future, we’ll be forming a dedicated venture fund.
